2023 Giving

Since 1975 the Washtenaw Area Council for Children has been promoting child safety, well-being, and sound communities. Your financial support makes our work possible; preventing child abuse and keeping kids safe.

We would like to share with you Natasha's story. Natasha is a kindergartner at Carpenter Elementary School in Ann Arbor. She and her classmates were participating in the Body Safety Training (BST) provided by WACC right in her school. Throughout this 10-day training, Natasha learned important tools to keep her body safe when it comes to fire, guns, cars, and streets, and also how to recognize, respond to, and report inappropriate sexual behavior directed at her.

Weeks later, Natasha's dad reported to her teacher that she had an encounter with an older relative who tried to touch her private parts. Because Natasha learned the body safety rule, "Say NO! Go. Tell." she was empowered to tell that relative "You are breaking my body safety rule!!" & told her grandmother about the incident right away.

Thanks to generous donors and supporters, the lives of Natasha and many other children like her can be protected and the abuse can be prevented. We can do this through the programs outlined below. Consider donating to one or all of these today!
